Assumption was a Catholic parochial school founded in 1938
by the Franciscan Friars and the Franciscan Sisters of
Allegany.  We welcomed students of all racial, ethnic, and
religious backgrounds into our community of learners.

Embracing a holistic and developmental approach to learning,
we emphasize basic skills as the building blocks of education,
coupled with remediation for struggling learners and
challenging programs for high achievers.

High standards of academic achievement and moral behavior
based on Gospel values are expected of our students
according to their abilities and learning styles so that
Assumption can live up to its motto, "A community of faith
teaching a world of knowledge."

Unfortunately the Archdiocese of Newark decided to close
Assumption School June 30, 2010

The School Advisory Board
meet monthly to set policy and to plan for the
future.  Members of the Board were drawn
not only from the school community, but also
from the wider parish and civic communities.
The Board is instrumental in developing the
budget of the school and in setting goals for
the future.
Mission Statement
A community of faith teaching a world of
knowledge

Assumption School is a community of
students, parents, administrators, and
teachers functioning within the framework of
Catholic Christian belief.  With the
recognition and acceptance of God’s love
and teachings, we acknowledge the dignity
and worth of each individual.
    The administration and faculty of
Assumption School work as a cohesive unit
to create an educational environment
promoting the ideals of support, community,
and academic excellence.  It is our belief that
through varied models of instruction in the
areas of academic instruction, human
knowledge, and religious values, our
students will be guided to live our Christian
values and deepen their respect for the
democratic society in which we live.
