Our Lady of the Assumption

Front window on the left side of the Church

The main medallion, reminiscent of Murillo's The upper medallion depicts the ancient Ark of the Covenant. Two angels hover over the Ark which contained the tablets of the Law given to Moses as well as some of the Manna with which God fed the Israelites on their journey in the desert. The Ark was a reminder of God's presence with His people and their covenant with Him. Mary is the New Ark, who in her body carried the Incarnate Jesus, the source of the New Covenant with God.

The main medallion, reminiscent of Murillo's Madonna, is the image of Our Lady being assumed into heaven and surrounded by heavenly cherubs signifying her favor by Almighty God. Included is the image of a crown and a scepter, symbolizing Mary as Queen of Heaven and Earth.
The third or lower medallion contains the image of Jesus, the Risen Christ, standing on the rolled-back stone...the Easter Miracle, the ultimate reason why Mary the Mother of Jesus is honored and why we her children gather to celebrate each Sunday as the Parish of Our Lady of the Assumption.

Our Lady of the Assumption, pray for us
